I have earned a Master’s degree in English Studies from the University of Gdańsk, Poland. I have also completed a comprehensive Postgraduate Programme in Translation in the Institute of English Studies at the University of Wrocław.
I have been working in translation since 2004 (in employment or self-employed). For many years I worked as an in-house translator for a multinational animal health company. This was a very valuable experience as it gave me the opportunity to gain industry-specific knowledge and to learn the relevant terminology used in the pharmaceutical industry.
My time with the company has also allowed me to gain extensive experience in corporate translation. I was responsible for translating all kinds of documents and communications required for all aspects of company operations. These mainly included financial documents, contracts and agreements, HR documentation, marketing and advertising materials, internal regulations, policies and procedures, newsletters.
I am now a full-time freelance translator and my main focus is on written translation i.e. specialised translation, business translation and academic/scholarly/research translation.
I use specialised CAT tools such as SDL Trados Studio and memoQ to guarantee consistency in style and terminology.
I set out very clear rules for cooperation on translation projects and I stick to them. I never accept translation projects before seeing the actual file or files. I always ask if reference material is available when I accept a translation assignment as there may be previous translations on the subject.
I only accept texts that I feel comfortable with and for which I can guarantee the best translation quality. If a document is outside my area of expertise, I can recommend a colleague specialised in that particular field. I cooperate closely with certified translators, other specialised translators, experts and industry professionals.
All data that is entrusted to MJ Translations by the clients is considered confidential and dealt with as such. If required, I am happy to sign a confidentiality agreement.
